“The Armenians now seek to spread their lies by overtly distorting statements of other countries’ officials”

Baku – APA. Armenian media have released some anti-Azerbaijan reports in the name of Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, following his visit to Armenia. Leonid Slutsky held a press conference at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia, rejecting these statements and stressing that he remains a friend of the Azerbaijani leadership and people.

Assistant to the Azerbaijani President for Public and Political Affairs, Ali Hasanov, made a special statement in this regard.

The statement reads: Recent actions, projects, counter-campaigns – in short, joint activities – jointly carried out by official authorities, public organizations and diaspora organizations of Azerbaijan and Turkey in different countries have proved extremely effective and successful, causing the years-long nasty campaign of Armenia against Turkey and Azerbaijan to end up in failure. Biased stereotypes formed against Azerbaijan and Turkey was washed away. Furthermore, the image of “oppressed Armenian people” and claims of the so-called Armenian genocide were exposed. Thanks to the thorough awareness of the international community about acts of genocide and aggression carried out by Armenian occupying forces against the Azerbaijani people for years, more and more international organizations, different states as well as a number of US states have now begun to call the aggressors with their names. A number of resolutions condemning the Armenian invasion of Azerbaijani lands and supporting the recognition of the Khojaly genocide have recently been adopted.

Thus, the Armenians failed to achieve the goal for the 100th anniversary of the so-called Armenian genocide. It is also questionable whether or not top officials from foreign countries will attend the events to be held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the so-called genocide. For all these reasons, the Armenian state, its authorities responsible for its foreign policy and the propaganda based on lies, and Armenian diaspora abroad went on hysterics. Now they seek to spread their lies by overtly distorting statements of other countries’ officials. The reports released by the Armenian media two days ago on behalf of Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, is another unsuccessful attempt of this kind.

Such steps were aimed at undermining strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Russia, and casting a shadow on relations between parliamentarians, various non-governmental organizations, civil societies and intellectuals of both countries. We see Slutsky as a loyal friend of the Azerbaijani people, state and political leadership of the country. This friendship is based on centuries-old historical traditions, political and economic interests, mutual respect for each other's sovereign policy and human relations tested for decades between Azerbaijan and Russia. We believe that the Azerbaijani-Russian relations transcends provocations, Armenians’ trumpery shows cannot affect relations between the two countries. We are confident that our relations with Russia will develop further, Azerbaijan’s friends like Leonid Slutsky will continue to contribute to the development of these relations.
