Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. “I do not label the Islamic State (IS) and Al Qaeda religious organizations, they are far from religion,” Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to the diplomat, these terrorist groups are backed by the United States.

“This kind of radical groups is a big threat to the entire Islamic world, especially developing Muslim countries. They have been killing innocent people in Syria and Iraq, and now they are doing the same in Yemen. The same groups nowadays are trying to achieve something in Afghanistan. They are destroying Muslim countries as allies of the US and western countries,” said the ambassador, noting that what is happening today across the Islamic world cannot be regarded as Sunni-Shiite fight.

“The Sunni and Shia denominations have always stood against this kind of terrorist acts. Islam is a religion of peace and stands against terrorism and brutality,” he added.

According to Mr. Pak Ayeen, the majority of IS members fighting in Syria and Iraq are from Europe.
