Baku. Javid Zeynalli – APA. “Such a baseless statement from Pope Francis shows a key religious figure is being manipulated for political purposes,” Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun told journalists, APA reported.
According to the ambassador, the pontiff has denied some tragedies the Anatolian Turks and Muslims underwent in different periods of history.
“However, the baseless statement lacks power to change the realities, which rely on history and international law. Unfounded and untrue statement made by a clerk who had previously given peaceful messages in his visit to Turkey stand to other purposes,” noted the ambassador.
Note that, Pope Francis in his speech a few days ago regarded the so-called Armenian genocide as the first genocide of the twentieth century.
