Baku – APA. Former Grand Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Rahmatulla Egemberdiyev has been detained in Kazakhstan.
Rahmatulla Egemberdiyev is convicted of tax evasion in his country, APA reports citing Interfax.
Judge of the Saryagash district court, Berik Kaipov, said the detainee has decided to leave the country because of political motives and is seeking political asylum in Kazakhstan.
The former grand mufti is being held in a temporary detention center.
